On the afternoon of November 14, 2024, the Academic Affairs Office of the Law School organised a visit to Haiwen & Partners to help students understand the demands and challenges of the current legal market and broaden their career horizons. Participants were drawn from the LL.M. in Chinese Law Programme, the Master of Law (International Arbitration and Dispute Settlement) Programme, and the International Undergraduate Programme.

During the discussions, three partners at Haiwen & Partners, Lan Jie, Tang Jiangshan and Yang Jianyuan, introduced their respective practice areas and shared their career paths and insights with students. Ms. Lan and Mr. Tang focused on the firm’s professional experience and achievements in capital markets and international practice. Ms. Yang, whose practice centres on data compliance and cybersecurity, shared insights into recent developments in these fields.

During the Q&A session, students discussed a range of issues with lawyers from Haiwen & Partners. Discussions covered topics including sustaining growth amid market volatility, the impact of foreign law firms’ withdrawal from the Chinese market, and Haiwen & Partners’ international expansion plans. Senior lawyers at the firm also offered valuable career advice to students.

The visit concluded amid warm applause. Students gained a more comprehensive understanding of Haiwen & Partners’ practice areas and market strategy, as well as deeper insights into legal careers.
