On the afternoon of September 21, 2026, the welcome reception for the 2026 intake of the LL.M. Programme at Tsinghua University School of Law was held in Meeting Room 509 of the Law Library. Those attending included Professor Cui Guobin, Dean of the Law School; Professor Chen Hangping, Vice‑Dean; Professor Chen Xinyu, Director of the LL.M. in Chinese Law Programme; Professor Lu Nan; Associate Professor Zhao Chenguang from Beijing Normal University Law School; and Liu Mengci from the Law School Academic Affairs Office, as well as course teaching assistants, Schwarzman College students and the incoming LL.M. students. Professor Chen Xinyu presided over the opening ceremony.

Professor Cui Guobin delivered opening remarks, extending a warm welcome to new students. He pointed to rapid developments in technology and social governance in China, noting that emerging issues such as artificial intelligence regulation and data protection were creating new legal challenges and opening up new areas for legal study and research. He encouraged students to make full use of Tsinghua’s courses and academic resources, take elective courses outside the Law School and participate in academic events to deepen their understanding of legal issues through interdisciplinary and cross‑cultural exchanges.
Professor Chen Hangping also welcomed the incoming students. He noted that studying and living in a new city, country and cultural environment brings both opportunities and challenges. He assured students that the Law School’s faculty and administrative staff would provide ongoing support and expressed the hope that they would quickly settle into life at Tsinghua.
Associate Professor Zhao Chenguang also welcomed the new students. She noted that the LL.M. Programme brings together students from different countries with varied educational backgrounds and professional experience. Such diverse perspectives enrich discussions both inside and outside the classroom and benefit faculty and students alike. She wished the new students a rewarding year at Tsinghua.
Professor Lu Nan also welcomed the new students. He encouraged them to engage with their Chinese peers while studying Chinese law, share insights into their home countries’ legal systems, societies and cultures, and develop a broader comparative perspective through mutual learning.
A total of 18 new students enrolled in this year’s LL.M. Programme, the largest cohort in recent years. The new students, who come from various countries and regions, introduced themselves in turn and expressed their hopes of deepening their understanding of China’s legal system and broadening their comparative perspectives through the programme. Schwarzman College students also introduced themselves, and both groups expressed interest in further exchanges and collaboration through courses and campus activities.
Representatives of the Law School’s teaching assistants introduced their courses and outlined their responsibilities. They offered to help the new LL.M. students with their studies, campus life, communicating in Chinese and adjusting to a new cultural environment.
Towards the close of the event, Professor Chen Xinyu thanked all participating faculty, students and teaching assistants, and wished the new students an enjoyable and fulfilling time at Tsinghua. The formal programme was followed by a tea break, during which faculty and students continued their conversations.
